Just like a good field guide helps you spot wildlife or navigate a trail, a few simple giving strategies can help you maximize the benefits of your generosity in the wake of recent tax law changes. Here are two tax-smart ways to support the prairies, woods, and family farms you care deeply about.

Trail Marker #1: Give from Your IRA

If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This type of gift can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution while reducing your taxable income, making it one of the most tax-efficient ways to support conservation.

Trail Marker #2: Use a Donor-Advised Fund

A donor-advised fund (DAF) offers a flexible way to plan your giving. You can contribute assets, receive a tax deduction in the year the gift is made, and recommend grants to nonprofits over time. Some donors also “bundle” multiple years of giving into a single contribution to maximize deductions. We’ve made it easy –  you can give directly from your DAF through our website and processor every.org.

You don’t have to navigate these options alone. We’re always happy to help you explore ways to give and answer questions — working alongside you and your tax advisor to find the approach that best fits your goals.

With a little planning, tax-smart giving strategies like these can help ensure lasting support for the land, water, and wildlife that make southern Illinois so special.
