Cactus Blossom Walk

June 6 @ 5:30 pm 7:30 pm CDT

Did you know that southern Illinois has a native cactus? It’s true! The prickly pear cactus (Opuntia humifusa) is found in the sandy soils along the Mississippi River. Our newest preserve, Knoll Family Wildlife Sanctuary in Edwardsville, has a HUGE population of these plants. They tend to bloom in late May – July. We are tentatively setting the date of this walk for June 6, but as the season progresses, we may change the date so participants can see peak cactus bloom time. It’s truly spectacular!
