Exciting news for all nature lovers!

A new study has found that spending time in nature can have a major impact on our health. From reducing anxiety and depression to lowering blood pressure and improving sleep, being surrounded by green and blue spaces can have a powerful effect on our well-being.

The study, conducted by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, found that visiting nature three to four times a week was associated with a significant reduction in the need for medications for various health conditions. So, what are you waiting for?

Embrace the healing power of nature by taking a walk in a park or along a lake or tree-lined space. At HeartLands Conservancy, we are dedicated to preserving and restoring green spaces for our community to enjoy.

Join us at our Signal Hill Volunteer Day on February 17th to help with ongoing restoration efforts and immerse yourself in nature.

Let's work together to create a greener and healthier world!

Have you checked out our Exploration Garden lately?

During a recent walk, our Conservation Stewardship Coordinator, Sean Pelato, noticed something truly special - Purple-Spored Puffball mushrooms!

These beautiful eggplant-shaded mushrooms can be found scattered along the trails (the paths that go past the Sand Prairie demonstration garden) nestled amongst the forbs.

Did you know that after a good rainstorm, these mushrooms like to show up but it's the drier weather that causes their skin to become brittle and crack?

With its stunning appearance, the natural pigments in these mushrooms have even been used to dye fabrics a delightful rusty red.

Visit our Exploration Garden and discover all the wonders of nature!

Learn more about the Purple-Spored Puffball mushroom here: https://www.mushroomexpert.com/calvatia_cyathiformis.html
