Overview

HeartLands Conservancy, in partnership with Clifftop, acquired the 115-acre β€œMill Creek Natural Area” in 2012. The parcel contains sandstone canyons and gorges and cliff systems that host unusual plant communities. A significant stretch of Mill Creek also winds through the property. The area hosts plant species found much further north, such as club moss, cinnamon fern, and bishop’s cap.

In 2019, HeartLands Conservancy and Clifftop transferred Mill Creek to the State of Illinois for inclusion in the Swayne Hollow Nature Preserve system – a highly sensitive ecological area.
