Did you know that Wild Blue Sage, or Salvia azure, is a beautiful addition to your garden and can also be used for medicinal purposes to treat pain?

As a part of the mint family, this stunning blue-hued plant is aesthetically pleasing and offers many benefits to our well-being.

Unfortunately, the Wild Blue Sage is listed as threatened in Illinois, making it all the more important to include it in our gardens and landscapes to help preserve this native plant species.

We've got you covered if you want to add Wild Blue Sage to your garden!

HeartLands Conservancy's Online Spring Native Plant Sale offers a variety of native plants, including Wild Blue Sage.

Click the link to order yours on March 28 and support our efforts to preserve and protect native plant species: https://heartlandsconservancy.org/native-plant-sale/

Wild Blue Sage grows best in full sun, in medium to dry soil, and can grow up to 5 feet tall. It blooms from July to October, providing a beautiful burst of color to your garden in the late summer and early fall.

Let's work together to protect and preserve our native plant species by adding Wild Blue Sage to our gardens and landscapes.

Heads up, everyone! β˜”οΈπŸŒ§

There's lots of rain coming in the area, and that means stormwater runoff could be a problem.

Remember: Only Rain Down the Drain!

Unlike sanitary sewers, which carry water to a treatment plant, storm sewers only go to the nearest body of water like a river, lake, or stormwater pond. The water that enters these drains is not treated.

Any pollutants we pour down the storm drains, like motor oil or paint, will end up in our lakes and rivers, causing harm to the environment. That's why it's so important to be mindful of what goes down our storm drains.

In Collinsville, we used non-toxic paint near storm drains to remind people that only water should pass through storm sewers.

Let's all do our part to protect our environment and keep our waterways clean!

Read the full article from the HLC Magazine, Meanderings Fall/Winter edition to learn how you can help protect our waterways. https://heartlandsconservancy.org/only-rain-down-the-drain/

🌊🌿 Happy World Water Day, everyone! πŸ’¦πŸŒ³

At HeartLands Conservancy, we're all about protecting and restoring our precious water resources.

Wetlands, forests, creeks, floodplains, and rivers are all crucial to ensuring clean water for all. So on this special day, let's raise a glass (of water, of course!) to our amazing regio and all the ways we can help keep it clean and healthy.

One way we do our part is by working with communities and public agencies to install green infrastructure that helps manage the impacts of environmental degradation to keep our water clean and our communities thriving.

Want to learn more about our efforts to protect and restore our water resources?

Check out our website at https://heartlandsconservancy.org/water/.

🌿🌊 Did you know that HeartLands Conservancy completed a watershed plan for the Canteen - Cahokia Creek watershed in 2018?

We partnered with landowners in the area who were interested in addressing their erosion or nutrient issues and applied for funding under our IEPA Grant. The Grant funds were used to reimburse landowners for 50% of the costs of survey, design, and construction of these projects.

🚍 And now, we're excited to take you on a unique tour of some of the most successful projects built to combat non-point source pollution in the Canteen Creek Watershed! 🌳🌊

HeartLands Conservancy is proud to present the Clean Water, Bright Future: Canteen Creek Watershed Green Infrastructure Tour on April 13, 2023.

We've chartered a bus to take you on a journey through some of the best management practices like porous pavement, rain gardens, and streambank/channel stabilization that were built using Illinois EPA 319 Grant funds.

Lunch will be provided, and registration is limited to 12, so sign up now to secure your spot and learn how these projects are improving the water quality in a regional watershed.

Register now and let's explore together! 🌿🌍https://heartlandsconservancy.org/event/clean-water-bright-future-canteen-creek-watershed-green-infrastructure-tour/ #GreenInfrastructureTour #CleanWaterBrightFuture #HeartLandsConservancy
