Jacob’s ladder gets its common name from its small leaflets arranged in a ladder-like manner along the long, graceful leaves. Its native habitat includes moist, deciduous woods and stream banks. It has a low drought tolerance and will go dormant in drought conditions. Grows nicely in combination with yellow Celandine Poppy and Red/Yellow Wild Columbine, which all bloom around the same time.

Where to see it growing: Bohm Woods Nature Preserve, Edwardsville
