Wildlife & Habitat
The golf course consists of flat to rolling topography with many mature trees (e.g., pine, maple, oak). The open area provides a space for rainwater to absorb into the ground rather than running off into adjacent neighborhoods.
Two ponds on the property are fed by a stream and are used to irrigate the course.
Depending on the season, you may see a variety of birds, such as Canada geese, robins, cardinals, and finches on the property.

Overview
Yorktown Golf Course
The Yorktown Golf Course is situated in the southwestern corner of the Village of Shiloh in St. Clair County, Illinois. The course has been used by golfers since it opened in 1961 and was designed by renowned golf course designers, Bob Goalby and Pete Dye. Yorktown Golf Course is the only Goalby & Dye golf course in the Greater St. Louis Area. In addition, some residents visit the site to walk the golf cart path (during periods of slow or no play) and use the driving range.
With the strong growth in the Shiloh area, loss of the open space would have had a significant impact on the people who use the golf course for walking, golfing, and spending time with friends and family. Losing the golf course to development would have also increased the amount of rainwater into the creek system.
By conserving this open space for the community, we’re not just providing a place for rainwater to absorb, but we’re also ensuring spaces for play, relaxation, and gathering in the community. The property is owned by the Village of Shiloh and managed by a management company. Learn more at: https://yorktowngc.com/
