Ways to Give

Retirement Plan Assets

Gifts of retirement plan assets is a great way to shape your legacy while providing critical support for conservation.

By naming HeartLands Conservancy as a beneficiary of your retirement accounts, you can contribute to the preservation of the southern Illinois wildlife habitats, heritage, and trails.

Retirement plan asset giving may be a suitable option for individuals who:

  • Have significant assets held in retirement accounts.
  • Want to support charitable causes, such as conservation, while minimizing taxes on retirement plan assets.
  • Seek to leave a lasting legacy for conservation without affecting other assets or estate plans.

How It Works

Designation
Designate HeartLands Conservancy as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, such as IRAs, 401(k)s, or pension plans. To change your beneficiaries in your retirement plan, contact your plan administrator and request a change-of-beneficiary form. Sometimes this is available on your plan administrator’s website.

Tax Benefits
Retirement plan assets are often subject to income tax and potentially estate tax if left to heirs. By designating HeartLands Conservancy as a beneficiary, you may be able to eliminate or reduce these taxes, allowing more of your assets to support conservation efforts.

Flexibility
You can designate HeartLands Conservancy as the primary beneficiary of your retirement account, or as a contingent beneficiary alongside other beneficiaries, providing flexibility in your estate planning.

Benefits

Flexibility & Financial Security
Ensure financial security for yourself and your loved ones by making use of tax-advantaged retirement accounts to support HeartLands Conservancy’s conservation efforts.

Make An Impact
Leave a meaningful legacy for conservation by supporting HeartLands Conservancy’s mission to conserve the habitats, farms, and communities that make southern Illinois so special.

Tax Efficiency
Retirement plan assets left to individuals are often subject to income tax and potentially estate tax. By designating HeartLands Conservancy as a beneficiary, you may be able to minimize or eliminate these taxes, maximizing the impact of your gift.
